MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

 

  Becoming a Registered Member with the Architectural Technologist Association of Nova Scotia (ATANS)


Student Members (Free): If you're currently a student, you can join ATANS for free. No application or membership fee  is needed—just submit proof of enrollment in your program.

 
Fees:

  • Application Fee: $50 Includes Physical Certificate/Digital Stamp (board approved) 
  • Membership Fee :  $50 pro rated for 2025

ATANS Architectural Technology Program (ATP)

The ATANS Technology Program (ATP) is the official internship pathway to become a registered member Architectural Technician or Architectural Technologist.

 
Step 1: Apply

You may qualify if you meet the following criteria:

 
For Architectural Technicians:

  • Graduate  of a 2 year architectural or building technology program  accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC) or recognized      by ATANS 
  • Good  character and professional integrity 
  • Submit  a completed ATP application 
  • Pay the application fee 

For Architectural Technologists:

  • Graduate  of a 3-year college, 4-year university, in architectural/building science degree program accredited by TAC or  recognized by ATANS 
  • Good character and adherence to professional ethics 
  • Submit a completed ATP application 
  • Pay the application fee 


Have a 2-Year Diploma? You may still qualify for Technologist status if you have significant experience, relevant responsibilities, and a strong project background. ATANS values practical, real-world experience.


No Formal Diploma or Degree? Don’t worry. We’ll assess your application based on your work experience and qualifications.

 
Internship Program Overview

To become a Registered Technologist or Technician, the next step is completing your internship:

 
1. Work Experience

  • Log - at least 3 years full-time (or 4,750 hours) of architectural work under the supervision of a licensed Architect or Registered      Architectural Technologist 
  • Experience must include projects from at least three different building occupancy types .


2. Supervision & Mentorship

  • You  must have both a Supervising Professional and a Mentor guiding you during the internship. 


3. Experience Assessment

  • Submit  a detailed report outlining your work, responsibilities, and progress .


4. Admission 

  • Complete  a online meeting with ATANS board member(optional).


5. Accreditation Exam

  • Pass the ATANS Accreditation Exam, which tests your technical knowledge,  ethics, and professional competency.


Final Step: Registration

After completing the internship and passing the exam, you can apply to become a registered Architectural Technician or Architectural Technologist with the ATANS designation.
